What Are Your Favorite Family Shows?

family watching tvBy Julie Samrick

Thanks to Netflix and Hulu, my husband and I have been digging into the archives of our favorite family shows and movies of the past to show our four kids, ages 5 to 10. We started with Back to the Future

and from there we did a whole Michael J. Fox marathon, watching the rest of the films as well as several Family Ties episodes.

My older kids also like the old black and white 30-minute The Twilight Zone episodes.  They’re just the right amount scary without any blood or gore.  I’ve searched and searched for Love Boat episodes, without luck.

There are plenty of shows on the air today that aren’t kid-friendly, but there are some the whole family will enjoy.  Our kids don’t want television Monday through Thursday, but we tape American Idol and catch up with it on the weekend.

We also enjoy America’s Funniest Videos and Chopped, the reality cook-off show where contestants must make an appetizer, main course, and dessert with the few random ingredients they’ve been given for each.  Think eggplant, cod, and cinnamon for an appetizer and how you’d combine the three in under 10 minutes.  Always very entertaining :)

Here are some tips for family television viewing.
