What a College “Wait List” Really Means

Colleges will notify applicants of their fate this fall by May 1st and the waiting is getting stressful. Just last weekend, UCLA erroneously told 900 high school seniors they’d been admitted to the highly selective school, only to be told on Monday it had all been an error. Some admissions experts say being wait listed is really nothing more than an “honorable mention,” and not much better than a rejection.  Others say the limbo is just plain mean.  Read the whole story, including what tips to offer your child if she is placed on her dream school’s waiting list.
