Talk about pressure! Already talk of royal babies

I vividly remember when Princess Diana greeted the crowds on the steps of Buckingham Palace with her little newborn bundle clad in white, the future king of England, Prince William. She gave birth to William within a year of marrying Prince Charles, but I never realized they had him so soon to keep with tradition.

According to biographer Andrew Morton, “If Kate is not pregnant in the next nine months, she will be defying 200 years of royal tradition.”

I felt kind of sorry for the newlyweds this weekend when I heard they’d postponed their honeymoon.  After 3 billion people around the globe watched their every move on Friday, perhaps they postponed their honeymoon to avoid the curious spotlight for a while?  Now the obligation of having to produce an heir within 12 months, lest they break 200 years of tradition, takes the pressure upon them to a whole new level.
