Redmond O’Neal Faces More Prison Time and His Dad Offers Excuses

It must be incredibly painful for a parent to see his/her child spiral downwards from drug involvement, but I was struck by Ryan O’Neal’s statement that his 26-year-old son, Redmond, relapsed because he “Never got over the death of his mother.”  Redmond’s drug use has been going on for much longer than since the death of his mother, Farrah Fawcett, in 2009.  What is the best approach for a parent to take in this position?  Tough love or unwavering support?  What are your thoughts?
