No Sunscreen Policy Has Some Parents Seeing Red

Mother Jesse Michener was horrified when her daughters, ages 9 and 11, returned home from a field day at school with terrible sunburns.  Adults weren’t authorized to apply sunscreen to the girls, nor were the girls allowed to bring sunscreen from home.  Michener is helping to change that policy at her Tacoma, Washington area school, but it could still be happening at a school near you.  Something similar happened with our family this spring.  The whole 4th grade went on an overnight, outdoor enrichment field trip- we were told  we needed a doctor’s note to send any medications, including bug spray. What has been your experience with this?
