No Such Thing as the “Freshman 15″

Contrary to popular belief, the statement that was first coined in a 1989 Seventeen magazine article, just isn’t true. The typical college freshman doesn’t gain even close to 15 pounds, but 1-3.  25% of freshmen actually lose weight. Researchers say it’s actually after the college years are over and when sedentary lifestyles kick in that the average American starts to gain 1.5 pounds a year, contributing the most to our nation’s obesity crisis.  Read the full article at Time.
