Kid Focused Charitable Organizations

CASA, or Court-Appointed Special Advocates. Assigns trained community volunteers to speak for the best interests of abused and neglected children in court. CASA now has 59,000 volunteers in over 900 areas and serves 243,000 abused and neglected children.  www.nationalcasa.org for a listing of the closest CASA program in your area

 CZC or Comfort Zone Camp is a bereavement camp held at different locations across the U.S. for kids 7-17 years old who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling, or primary caregiver. The free camps include confidence building programs and age-based support groups that break the emotional isolation grief often brings.
Girls on the Run promotes character and confidence in pre-teen girls by creatively integrating running.

Keaton Raphael Foundation

Furniture for Families

An all-volunteer furniture bank, FFF solicits good, serviceable used furniture, stores it in their warehouse, and distributes it (free of charge) to needy families.  www.furnitureforfamilies.org


Hands for Hope- Youth Making a Difference

The primary objective of this agency is to show youth from kindergarten through 12th grade that they can make a difference no matter how old they are. www.handsforhopeyouth.org


Mother Teresa Maternity Home

Since 1998 this drug and alcohol free home has been open to pregnant women in need of assistance. Over the years it has housed 180 women.  The women may enter at any time during their pregnancy and may stay for up to 3 months post-partum. The women are given counsel in many areas in order to lead more fulfilling lives. www.motherteresamaternityhome.com


Run for Courage

In the United States alone, officials estimate 300,000 children are sex trafficked each year.  One founding member of the organization has personally dealt with this heinous crime, when her daughter was taken from a grocery store and sold for sex by a trafficker for 8 days before being rescued by the FBI.  In the fall of 2011 the second annual Run for Courage event was held, a 5/10K race to raise awareness about this issue. www.runforcourage.com


Sacramento Crisis Nurseries

Their objective is to prevent child abuse and neglect by providing support to families at times of crisis through residential respite care for children from birth through age 5. www.crisisnurseryonline.com


Twin Lakes Food Bank

For over 24 years Twin Lakes has served families in need with supplemental food and clothing. In 2010 they gave 607 backpacks to children who may not have otherwise had one and gave 528 pairs of Back to School new shoes.  They also gave 1,002 Easter Baskets to some very happy children. www.twinlakesfoodbank.org


San Diego

Sharp Hospice Care Memory Bear Program

Since 2002, 7,000 special teddy bears have been made out of the garments of loved ones who have passed away.  These teddy bears greatly comfort family members, especially children, and teenagers are a large part of this organization’s volunteer base. www.sharp.com/hospice



Hands Together

Hands Together has emerged as a key educational and development organization working in Haiti’s largest and poorest slum, Cite Soleil.  Led by Father Tom Hagen, they have built free schools where there were none and provided every student with a daily hot meal.
