French Gunman Dead after 31 Hour Stand-off

French prosecutor Francois Molins told journalists that 23-year-old Mohammed Merah had claimed responsibility for killing four people–including three young children–at a Jewish school in Toulouse and three French paratroopers. Merah cited the death of Palestinian children in Gaza and opposition to France’s role in the NATO peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan as the reason for targeting French troops and Jewish school children. He died Thursday after jumping from an open window, ending a 31 hour stand-off with police.  Read more
