Allergy Symptoms Really Are Worse Than Ever

I have never had allergies in my life. I remember my older sister had them so severely she had to move in with my grandparents for a bit since they lived closer to the ocean and her allergies weren’t as bad there as they were in the East Bay Area.  I’ve thought of her time and again with so much more empathy as I’ve woken these past few weeks with a stuffy nose, itchy eyes and an empty bed.  You see, after 11 years of marriage, my husband can’t take my new snoring!

And while I’ll still tout the netti pot, introduced to me by watching Dr. Oz, I’ve ditched it for the big guns- Claritin.

I read an article today that finally made me realize  I’m not crazy! There are other Americans new to allergy suffering this year too and here’s why:  According to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation “Heavy snow and rain in some parts of the country have nourished a profusion of tree pollen, while a sudden shift to warm, sunny weather has made its release more robust. Flooding has also pumped up the volume on mold.”

Add to the fact that I live near the Sierra Foothills, an area with a wide variety of climates, and it all makes sense now.

Next topic…where to find ear plugs for my husband until allergy season is over.
