The practice of sex selection, prenatal screening for gender followed by abortion if the child isn’t the preferred sex, is gaining momentum in other regions of the world than South and East Asia. Mara Hvistendahl, author of “Unnatural Selection: Choosing Boys Over Girls, and the Consequences of a World Full of Men” discusses the implications of sex selection and argues that girls are indeed the new endangered species.
